To prolong the life of the finish of your new PRS instrument, we highly recommend that after each use the entire instrument, including the strings, be wiped thoroughly with a soft, clean, dry cloth. We recommend the PRS Guitar Care Kit for all PRS guitars, as it contains nitro-safe cleaner and polish, along with cleaning cloths and fretboard conditioner.
Preserving Nitro Finishes
Nitrocellulose lacquer (nitro) finishes have unique care requirements, since they may react and dissolve with long-term exposure to certain synthetic materials such as leather, rubber, and vinyl.
- Use only nitro-safe guitar cleaners and polishes on your nitro-finished PRS.
- Avoid storing the guitar with the strap on, as many straps contain materials that nitro may react with.
- Proceed with caution when storing the guitar on synthetic hangers—consider covering the hanger's arms with cloth sleeves.
In addition, we recommend avoiding prolonged exposure to UV light, such as sunlit rooms (direct or indirect) and certain types of household grow lights.
When in doubt of your guitar’s finish type, it’s best to treat it as if it were nitro.
Preserving Satin Finishes
If your PRS is finished in satin nitro, we do not recommend using any guitar polish, including PRS guitar polish. The compounds within polishes may cause the finish to become glossy.
We recommend only using PRS Guitar Cleaner on Satin-finished PRS guitars, or quality furniture polishes such as Behold or Pledge.
