The pickups are the voice--some might even say the soul--of any guitar. Our USA-made pickups are wound here at our Maryland factory, utilizing a special TCI process to dial in tone to Paul’s design specifications. Paul himself, alongside the engineering team, is always iterating on these designs, each new pickup model utilizing the knowledge gained from the last.
About TCI
Tuned Capacitance and Inductance (TCI) is the PRS method of fine-tuning two critical parts of a pickup’s voice: the capacitance and inductance. This unique process enables us to produce (and reproduce) highly precise specifications for each pickup, and to continue our efforts in tonal research and development.
As of 2020, all PRS guitars feature pickups made with the TCI process. All pickups available via the West Street East accessories store have been produced with the TCI process as well.

| DMO | Dynamic, Musical, Open. PRS DMO pickups have a “wide open” sound with vocal character. They deliver clear, pleasant-sounding tones across a wide range of frequencies (bass to treble) in each pickup. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2025-Present |
| McCarty III | These pickups incorporate every detail of pickup knowledge PRS has gained in recent years of R&D. PRS McCarty III pickups are vintage-inspired humbuckers that bring a vocal clarity to their full, warm tone. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2025-Present |
| 58/15 LT & 58/15 LT+ | Tweaked from the 58/15’s, 58/15 LT’s (LT meaning “low turns”) have a vintage warm, clear tone. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2015-Present |
| 85/15 | 85/15’s are uncovered pickups with remarkable clarity and extended high and low end, perfect for more modern applications. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2015-Present |
| Narrowfield | PRS Narrowfield pickups capture thick single-coil tones without the hum and are designed to sense a more concentrated area of the magnetic field, delivering a clear, powerful tone. The stairstep design mirrors the fretboard radius, thereby promoting more consistent volume string to string. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2010 - Present |
| Narrowfield "Deep Dish" | The new Narrowfield DD design continues PRS’s proprietary Narrowfield pickup platform but trades the Narrowfield’s traditional stairstep design for a mixed magnet/steel pole piece design and a slightly deeper bobbin. Both of which help these pickups reach twangy, musical highs without losing too much bass and becoming anemic. Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2023 - Present |
| TCI | Named for the introduction of the TCI process, the Paul’s Guitar model included PRS’s TCI treble and bass pickups with two Mini-toggle switches. These pickups offer full soapbar tones in their standard humbucking modes, and clear, spanky tones when coil-tapped (pre-2025 models) or activated in an EQ circuit (2025 models onwards). Magnets: Alnico 2 | 2019-Present |

| DS-01 | The DS-01 pickup, in the treble position of the S2 Vela models, provides a bright, chimey tone, complimenting the bitey Narrowfield in the bass position. | \m/ (Metal) | PRS \m/ pickups are designed for heavier genre styles of music with the metal community in mind. Both the treble and bass \m/ pickups are wound in house at PRS and utilize both ceramic and Alnico magnets for full, powerful and crystal-clear tones.
